English
At Christopher Hatton we teach a broad, balanced and creative English curriculum. We are focused on achieving excellent standards in oral communication, reading and writing. We want our pupils to question and critique all that they see and read. We want them to be able to put forward their ideas and express their opinions through speaking and writing. Real life experiences, drama, debate, rich texts and our topic based curriculum are all used to ignite interest and enthusiasm. We make sure that composition and grammar aspects of writing are taught contextually within the learning journey which leads towards a meaningful outcome. This may be written, spoken, performed, filmed, animated, or blogged. To view the English curriculum for your child, please go to the year group page and click on the topic overview.

Library
We have a dedicated, well stocked, library in school as well as book corners in every class. The library is open during lunchtimes for children to visit. Teachers take their classes to the library and children are welcome to borrow a book from the library and a book from their class collection. In addition, each class has a system in place to ensure that your child takes home a reading book – please speak to your child’s teacher for further details
