Hattoneers care for our environment

CELEBRATE and PROTECT

In the summer term the whole school topic focuses on environmental issues and we come together in celebration in our Arts Festival. Pupils share their art, dance, poetry, clothing linked to the theme. We want our pupils to appreciate nature and have a desire to take care of it. We encourage the children to CELEBRATE its beauty and PROTECT it where it is fragile both now and in the future.

To make sure it is accessible for our primary pupils we link the learning to the local area e.g. we visit local gardens and parks to identify wildflowers and learn about biodiversity. We teach the children how they can encourage more wildlife in our little urban plot by planting flowers in our school flower beds. We show them the beauty of the UK through assemblies and also through our Y5 residential Geography field trip to Sussex. We teach them the countryside code and raise awareness of endangered British wildlife. We hope that this learning will inspire them in their adult lives to make responsible decisions that protect the natural world.
